Omegle was founded by Leif K-Brooks in March 2009 when he was 18 years old and still in high school in Vermont, USA. He built and ran the entire platform almost entirely by himself for 14 years. On November 8, 2023, K-Brooks posted a farewell letter and shut Omegle down permanently.
